As any mother steering the kids through school knows, that at some point, the child will fall off the wagon. The job is not to stop them from falling off, the job is to dust them off and get them back on it.
Marcus Aurelius in his Meditations -the book he actually never intended to publish - he writes to himself:
"When force of circumstance upsets your equanimity, lose no time in recovering your self-control, and do not remain out of tune longer than you can help. Habitual recurrence to the harmony will increase your mastery of it."
My Coach calls this The Equanimity Game. During last year I have been challenged by this game of getting back to my equanimity more times than I care to account for.

Do you know what the result has been?
I can tell you what it isn't - it hasn't eradicated the times I get knocked off my centre, but instead, it has diminished the times in between before I get back in.
It's not too many years ago when the downward spiral began, it took me out of the game for days, even weeks at the time.
Now the shift can happen within an hour, sometimes quicker. I have taught myself to reach into the tools I have at my disposal.
I have done this by creating an optimal operational playbook for my life and business. It is a deeply personal look into the way I can strive to be the best I can be in all areas of my life. How I uphold the virtues vital to me. What do I do when I start falling off the wagon?
It is the matter of deciding what you do - or don't do when things don't go as you planned. It's about thinking ahead. Setting yourself up for success. The template for that is simple:
When a happens, then I do b.
Or when this occurs, then I think like that.
When x or y, then z.
If you created an optimal operational playbook for yourself, what it would look like? What would you put in it? See, here's the thing, we all fall off the wagon. The question remains, how quickly can you get back up?
Get. Back. Up.
Start. Again. Again. Again.
